How to Make the Best Summer Soda Recipes

While the latest fizz in the soda industry in San Francisco is fighting to keep Californians happy there are more important issues to consider, such as finding the best way to enjoy your beverages on a hot summer day. Alright, well maybe it is not that important but as the heat wave approaches you will want to have your soda fountains ready so you can craft a delightful drink while the heat knocks on your door.

Strawberry-Coconut Cream Soda

You are looking for something light and to keep the heat out right? Well here is a treasure you can look forward to everyday. Using coconut milk, half a cup of sugar or Splenda, fresh strawberry slices, and four cups of club soda you can kick back by the pool with the delicious taste of summer. Mix this formula in a shaker and serve in a chilled glass.

Frozen Root Beer

We know how much everyone enjoys cooling off with an icicle pop straight from the freezer, so why not indulge a little with classic root beer. A bubbly root beer float is delicious but in any heat wave you want something colder than usual. Try this:
  • Fill a large pitcher with root beer
  • Chill the pitcher in the freezer for 10 minutes
  • Pour root beer in small plastic container molds
  • Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream
  • Remove excess foam
  • Insert new Popsicle sticks
  • Freeze overnight
The next day, say hello to your very own frozen root beer Popsicle!

Chocolate Lover’s Delight

What is a summer day without chocolate? Assuming your stockpile of chocolate has not melted away just yet, you can make your very own chocolate soda. The next time you score on some club soda and chocolate syrup take it home with you and try this:
  • Pour two or three spoonfuls of chocolate syrup
  • One spoonful of whipped cream
  • One cup of milk
  • Four ounces of club soda
Mix these ingredients in a shaker, pour over ice, stir well and enjoy.
If you are concerned about overdoing it on piling up unwanted calories in your diet, well you may be in luck by substituting a dessert or baked good with one of the beverages listed above. According to a recent study from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, sweets such as bagels, doughnuts and pastries are the calorie leaders that make up more than 6 percent of calories for the average person. Soda and sports drinks alone averaged 112 calories among adults, while bagels and breads averaged out at 134 calories per day. Now that you are enlightened on the cold facts, sit under some shade and enjoy another glass of soda. Cheers!
